Not to jump in ahead of Swift, but I'm in a chatty mood. The problem
can't actually be addressed. Its a matter of legality. Teenagers are
still 'minors' and by law can not be approached or made to do anything
their guardian does not approve of. The defeat of this problem is either
for the teenager to bite the bullet and approach the parent with the
truth or for a friend to cover for them. Tell the parent, yes I'm going
to be out for x amount of time. I'm going to a convention. What kind? I
dunno, sci-fi or some shit. A little white lie with a big smattering of
truth in the form of facts other then the one fact they (the teenager)
are afraid of admitting can go a long way. I've been playing this little
parental Tom Clancy game of lies and half-truths for decades.

As for an image change. Well, I could bring my own abnormality and
convince them that we are not necessarily perverts, but rather, really
dangerous possibly anti-Christian and anti-government militant
fundamentalists who might be Nazi's. Or pirates. We don't know, we're
parents. We don't grasp things like "Warhammer 40,000" let alone Star
Trek/Star Wars which has been broadcasted for over twenty years
worldwide. We'd rather rot our brains with Couldn't Solve the crime In
time (CSI) or a sitcom that stereotypes single people trying to hold
their first townhouse. I mean, really, its un-American to think ;)
