[Pa-furry] Looking for someone

I'm not arguing that people don't know better. I'm arguing that
sometimes they 'forget' about it in the heat of the moment, and don't
realize or remember exactly what they're risking. I've been there a few
times myself as a younger guy, and done a few stupid things too,
speaking from that experience, I wish someone had slapped me upside the
head and said 'Hey, just what do you think you're doing, idiot? You KNOW
better than this.'

I liked that series simply because while yes, it's a slice of life
comic, and incorporates a LOT of points that people may not agree with
(aaaand if you're not openminded enough to read it, why did you get it
in the first place? but that's another topic entirely.), but it also
makes a very serious point, with one of the main characters having ended
up fighting HIV/AIDS due to the same kind of risky behavior. It pretty
well illustrates what can happen if you don't watch and take care of
yourself, instead of expecting others to. While nothing can force
people to take stock of their position and the risk to themselves,
reading or seeing more things like this can put the idea there, and I
applaud anything that can make you stop during that critical moment and
say 'Hey, wait. [insert character name here] went through a situation
JUST LIKE THIS. He didn't end up too good. Maybe I ought to rethink
this.'.

Besides which, if written well, something like this isn't necessarily a
detractor from a story, either. in the case of Circles, it was the basis
for the plot. In any number of others, it's just a side fact about some
characters, and it's something they work with, or around. Showing the
troubles and pains of those who go through some of these problems is, in
my mind, the best way to make people realize what they might have to go
through if they take that risk.

As a final point, I agree to no common sense, no sex, but I have to
say it, because it's the truth: When has that ever stopped someone from
going out and getting some?

Wow. Novel-size. Okay, I'm done. Thanks Jennie, you actually pulled up
a lot of valid points that I enjoyed considering and stating my own
views on. =^.^=
