I go further then that, even if you ask, use a condom, people don't 
always know.  And you can't always be sure the truth is being told.

If there is going to be a relationship that lasts long enough then you 
can get tested, and retested 6 months latter, then you might have a 
solid idea.  Get tested together, that's a good date in my book, if your 
going to be serious about the relationship.

Even back as far as my teen years I said, "if your embarrassed to get a 
condom, then you shouldn't be having sex" that goes twice as much for 
guys, though I do give credit to ladies, though being on the pill is 
also a good thing.

Gods, I sound like a sex ed tape.
